BACKGROUND AND PROGRESS

Bukit Jalil is a suburb about 20 km south of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It was known as the Bukit Jalil Estate until 1992, when it was developed into the National Sports Complex for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. The outdoor stadium has a capacity of 100,500.

Bukit Jalil LRT station was used as a filming location for the 1999 movie Entrapment, although the sign was changed to that of Pudu.

Bukit Jalil also houses the International Medical University (IMU), Technology Park Malaysia (TPM), and the Malaysia campus of APIIT, the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology and UCTI - The Asia Pacific University College of Technology & Innovation. It also hosted the ‘I am a force of nature’ concert for tsunami relief.

BukitJalil National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, located in the National SportsComplex to the south of the capital city of Malaysia Kuala Lumpur, is a100,000 capacity all-seater, multi-purpose stadium that was built in1998 to host the 1998 Commonwealth Games.


Bukit Jalil's capacity makes it the joint ninth largest stadium in the world, alongside Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was built by United Engineers Malaysia Bhd and completed three months ahead of schedule. Designed to host a multitude of events, the National Stadium is the central and most prominent sports building at the 1.2 km² National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil.

The stadium is considered the best stadium in Malaysia and is the home of the Malaysian football team. Initially built for the Commonwealth Games, the stadium is now used for a variety of events, most recently being one of the venues for the AFC Asian Cup 2007. It was built as a gift by the USSR, and it is exactly the same as the Luzhinki stadium in Moscow, Russia.

If you love golfing, just take your golf bag and go practice your putting skills at Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort.  You can choose whether to play golf at the lush green courses or to also swing your golf clubs at the driving range, which is uniquely located a level below the tennis courts.

If you are full of adventurous spirit, let’s play Paintball!  Xtion Paintball Park in Bukit Jalil will definitely satisfy your hunger for teamwork action full with fun and adventure for hours.

The major attraction is the National Sports Complex.  The National Sports Complex was the venue for the historic XVI Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.  Within the sports complex’s premises are five stadiums, namely the National Stadium, National Aquatic Centre, National Squash Centre, National Hockey Stadium and the Putra Indoor Stadium.  There is also a Family Park and International Garden.

If you’re looking for fun or relaxation, the Commonwealth Hill and Family Park are up close and personal with precious military show pieces at museum!  Among the displays are ancient photographs, uniform sets, weaponry and many more air force paraphernalia.  The Hawker Audax aircraft will definitely catch your attention.

You can find a lot of eateries around Bukit Jalil area.  There are a few popular restaurants like Kin No Uma Japanese Restaurant which serves sashimi, teppanyaki and sushi and Cavallini’s Italian Restaurant that sells pasta and pizza.
