There are some homes in Damansara Heights located close to high tension wires. The views of home owners are divided with some saying it affects the health in a negative way while others enjoy the benefit of extra land from the TNB land reserve. What are your views? Are there scientific proof that staying near high tension wires affect our health in a negative way?

I think that is a really good point regarding mobile phones. Before I read your post I would have never dreamed of buying a house near a high tension wire. But if I think about it now I have my radiating headset right next to my head for about an hour a day.
I still think it's better not to be living next to a high tension wire, but you are right, there are probably many other far bigger risks to worry about in life.
Next time if I see a good property near a high tension wire I might just buy it!

The arguments on whether living next to HTW is safe or not is still widely debated and rather inconclusive. But people tend to forget that they live in much greater risk with spending more time infront of the PC, TV, iphone perhaps? , mobile surfing?, and now ipad...
Buying a property next to a HTW is rather a physchological factor and nothing more.

I think you have raised a really good point.

The last time i sold a house that backs a high tension wire was in May 2008 and i sold the same house again in August 2008. I took about 6 months to sell the house at a reasonable price the first time & took a week to sell the house again to a buyer who missed the chance to buy that particular house. I will say the time to sell a house backing a HTW all depends on the price & market demand at that point of time.
I heard from experts the minimum set back is 20 meters away from HTW's.

Also how close can a HTW be before people start getting worried?

Thanks for the link. To answer your question about how much do HTW's affect prices in Damansara Heights. It is very subjective depending on the characteristcs of property, distance to HTW, location & objective of purchaser owning the home. However in my experience prices of homes backing HTW's may be about 10% lower compared to homes away from HTW's.
