The shortlisted companies for the 2010 Frost & Sullivan excellence awards are evaluated on a variety of actual market performance indicators which include revenue growth, market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, marketing strategy and business development strategy.
The Frost & Sullivan’s 2010 Malaysia Green Builder of the Year Award was conferred to Sime Darby Property based on how it had innovatively and effectively implemented building construction methodologies and integrated its projects with existing surroundings and infrastructure. The Award also recognizes how Sime Darby Property has promoted community and environment sustainability in the design of building construction projects, its adoption of green concepts and environmental practices in its projects and the acceptance by end users.
“Our commitment in developing technology and products that will benefit customers and the industry and further drive the transformation towards creating eco-friendly living is in support of Sime Darby Group’s philosophy of developing sustainable futures and making it real for everyone,” added Dato’ Tunku Putra Badlishah.
Sime Darby Property townships adopt a wide range of progressive, environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices; which include the use of the rainwater harvesting systems, formaldehyde-free finishes, recycled materials and all-natural products in the homes.
Its most notable green initiative is the development of the “Sime Darby Idea House” conceived as a test bed for new ideas on sustainable architecture and green building technology. The Sime Darby Idea House is set to become the first carbon-neutral dwelling in Southeast Asia and the project is led by Sime Darby Property’s in-house Research and Development Innovation Department.
Commending Sime Darby Property and this significant green initiative, Melvin Leong, Frost & Sullivan’s Program Manager for Environment & Building Technologies Practice, Asia Pacific said, “Sime Darby Property’s successful green proposition in the industry is the result of its intense R&D activities, and is setting the benchmark in the industry. It also echoes the Malaysian Government’s effort in the implementation of green building concepts.”
Calling Sime Darby Property “a pioneer in township development since the 1970s”, Frost & Sullivan also described it as having a significant presence in the property development industry in Malaysia, saying that Sime Darby Property’s market position had also strengthened its successful launch and promotion of 10 residential townships in Malaysia. Besides Malaysia, Sime Darby Property is active in Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia with property development and asset management projects.
The Frost & Sullivan Award recognizes exemplary corporations within the Industrial Technologies, Environmental & Building Technologies, Automotive, Logistics, Energy & Power Systems and Healthcare sectors in Malaysia. These awards are conferred annually at global, regional and country-specific levels.
