KUALA LUMPUR
-- A tailor on Wednesday claimed she suffered losses of RM100,000 after allegedly being cheated by a man who she believed was able to help her in a land acquisition transaction with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, three years ago.

Lim Boey, 57, said she was introduced to the suspect, who is in his 40s, by a friend who had sought the man's help for a similar transaction.

Lim claimed that she had made several payments pertaining to the land acquisition, change of land status from private to commercial and all relevant taxes.

"Between 2005 and 2006, I have paid him a total of RM15,000 in cash and RM85,000 to get the ownership of the land located behind my house.

"The payment was also meant to get a change of land status to enable myself to build a premise for my tailoring business, but nothing has been forthcoming," she told reporters at the MCA public complaints bureau in Wisma MCA here.

She said the man had also promised to return all the money to her if he failed to get the job done.

"He promised me that I can get the land within one or two years, but until today, he cannot be traced," she said, adding that a report was also lodged pertaining to the matter at the Ampang police headquarters in November last year.
