Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying an apartment/condo. I'm just too dard tired of tending to the garden and sweeping my car porch daily.
Plus, with a small kid, I think an aprtment/condo would be a safer place to stay?

Any apartment dwellers here to give some comment?

Wow, a Malaysian that actually wants to live in an apartment out of choice! Well, I suppose I'm exaggerating, but it seems that most Malaysians do want their own land, but most can't get it because of price.

I have been living in an apartment from the day I arrived in KL, several years ago.

I have loved it - the security, the lower price, the access to amenities, not having a garden to look after, etc...

The only worry I would have for you is that you seem to be wanting to move out of a house at a time when most people want to be moving into a house. Your child will be brought up without a patch of green grass. If you're ok with that, then go for it. It makes sense.

Condos can be great for kids too. Some have swimming-pools or at least play areas where kids get to play with other kids in the condo.

Hi Su San,

In regard to your child, I think living in an apartment/condo with shared amenities would be great for him/her. During the time I spent living in a condo in JB, I saw a lot of children playing near the swimming pool and simply running around or playing football on the condo area. Also, children from the kampung next door would often play together with the kids from the condo.

So in short, I think that as long as there are public spaces where your child can spend time, it won't miss a garden. And on top of that, perhaps you would feel more secure and relieved knowing your child is in a safe haven.

Hi

Maybe the security in a condo (and in all depends where it is located!) is a notch better. I have seen children being accompanied by child-minders or adults while playing about in the compound of the condos. At the end they still need an adult to oversee them. You can oversee your kid/s as well in a landed property. It gives them freedom, trample on the grass and you cannot trample on the grass in a condo. Very expensive landscaping done up...

I have always wondered when living in a condo if someone should pass away, how does the body get transported out. Being truly Asian and from a multi-cultural country, well we have our funeral rites, etc, etc. We obviously cant carry out the funeral rites in the apartment unit itself. Actually a relative of mine, who is still much alive, said to me that when she dies, she is very worried where on earth will they place her body. In some cold lonely basement or multi purpose hall in the condo? She currently resides in a condo with her son and family.

Malaysians like to live on landed property but younger 'uns prefer condo living. So it all boils down to preference, budget.

There are dedicated funeral parlors for such occasions, although a certain amount of fees will be charged accordingly.
