I hear that the maintenance fee for a condo can be quite hefty. I wonder what the range is usually like?

Also, I guess the biggest fear is what the place will look like in 20 years time. If it's a residential home, you could refurbish it to ensure the value stays. But for an apartment, it just feels too out of our control...

Susan Lim,
If you able to get a good neighbour and location of apartment, it's OK. You need to consider the apartment management as well.
I've been currently getting bad experience living in apartment that consist of bad neighour keeping several dogs without considering/respect other neighborhood.
Addition, the management is also screw up without able to proper manage the property such as cleanliness, security , harmony and etc. But I still need to pay up the maintenance fees although that is not satisfy with the service given. Else, interest will be incurr on the maintenance fees debt. Unless I forever don't want to sell up the property.
Addition, if you really wanna to purchase apartment/condo; do make sure that it's with touch N go gate and with individual private car park. Not OPEN car park. If you own more than 1 car, it's better to get unit that come with more than 1 parking bay.

Hello

Further to what Lim Ewe Chai has written, make sure the management of the condo is working. Take a look around the condo before you buy. That should should you an indication of the level of services.

Lack of parking spaces could be a huge headache. If each unit comes with 2 lots, that would not be so much of an issue.

cheers

Well Su San, apartment living can be very peaceful, depending on location and type (quiet esp low dense but high maintenance fee).

The one I'm staying is also quite quiet though not really low dense and with mainteance fee of RM 165, I get to enjoy gym & pool facilities which I fully make full use of it. Security is also good as compared to landed properties nowadays. At least if I were to go on holiday, not so worried, no one actually knows except your neighbour.

So for me, I'll vote for condo living. Btw, I'm young, but my father doesn't like it cause he's used to the landed type of living.

I have been staying in terrace house for the past 20 years, and now i'm staying in an apartment. For a lazy person like me, buying an apartment is better choice. At least i don't have to clean the backyard, garage and the front gate. And i'm too worry about breaking-in from backdoor, frontdoor, roof, etc. the main purpose of buying my apartment is to enjoy a panoramic view.

Safer living in a condo???? Maybe slightly safer than staying on landed property that's all. I know of a condo located in a upper middle to high-end area. Security tight at the front but lax at the back perimeter. Break-ins on a few occasions. How safe is safe now? BTW maintenance fee about RM400 each month for that condo. That's EXPENSIVE.
